Langston Hughes – I, Too

Hundred and Sixty Eight 9.23.16

This world.. will it get better? Will we stop our hate and anger? Ah so easy to ask these questions from the privileged platform I am sitting on from behind this screen..I am sad and broken about where the world and humanity is headed and having hard time finding comfort and strength in words of my teachers… but I have not given up yet.. let’s not give up, not now.

With Love,
Your Brown Poet Brother.

“When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love have always won. There have been tyrants and murderers, and for a time, they can seem invincible, but in the end, they always fall. Think of it–always.” Mahtma Gandhi

Langston Hughes
I, Too

I, too, sing America.

I am the darker brother.
They send me to eat in the kitchen
When company comes,
But I laugh,
And eat well,
And grow strong.

Tomorrow,
I’ll be at the table
When company comes.
Nobody’ll dare
Say to me,
“Eat in the kitchen,”
Then.

Besides,
They’ll see how beautiful I am
And be ashamed—

I, too, am America.
