Just started reading Rilke and Lou Andreas-Salomé: A Love Story in Letters – and goodness… Many loved Lou for the multitude she carried in herself and she loved many, but I like to think she loved Rilke the most!

and the terrible reticent gorge in which the others
end: again and again the two of us walk out together
under the ancient trees, lay ourselves down again and again
among the flowers, and look up into the sky.
